In our new interview series “How are things going with former employees?” we speak to former employees about their time at Issuemakers. We are also curious about their current field or place of work and how they can apply the insights gained at Issuemakers there. This edition we speak to Anne Backer, who currently works at Ventolines.

How long did you work at Issuemakers?

I worked at the Issuemakers from early 2014 to early 2020. So almost 6 years!

Where do you work now?

I now work at Ventolines. We support clients with the development, construction and management of sustainable energy projects such as wind and solar parks. I am mainly responsible for these sustainable energy projects environmental communication and stakeholder management. Last year I was also responsible for Ventolines' corporate communication, including the renewal of the corporate identity, internal communication and structuring various other communication processes.

What did you learn at Issuemakers that is still useful to you today?

I really learned the public affairs and communications profession at the Issuemakers. In the full width but also at different levels. I have learned to think and work strategically, tactically and operationally. I have written endless strategic communication plans, followed parliamentary debates, done scenario analyses, written press releases, spoken to MPs and approached and spoken to the media. Moreover, I learned to work at an agency; project management, advising, writing proposals, managing budgets and writing hours. This experience comes in very handy at Ventolines (also a service provider, but not only in communications). I hope to be able to further expand the practice of environmental communication and stakeholder management there.

“I also miss the heated discussions about current events. Everyone at Issuemakers is so socially involved.”

What do you miss most about your time at Issuemakers?

The warmth of the team. I really miss that. It was always so nice in the office. I also miss the heated discussions about current events. At Issuemakers everyone is so socially involved.
