The Issuemakers tips: these are the best podcasts for this summer!

The podcast is becoming increasingly popular in the Netherlands. Listeners can especially appreciate that podcasts take the time to go into depth, as was recently shown research by the University of Groningen. At De Issuemakers we increasingly opt for some depth while listening. Do you meet an Issuemaker on the train, on your bike or in the car? Then there is a good chance that he or she will gain new insights through the headphones. Now that it's summer, we thought it would be a good time to ask all podcast fans of De Issuemakers about their favorite podcast. The result is a list of great podcasts for this summer!

1. The tip from Issuemakers Jordi Bouman and Jurre Plantinga: The Wilderness

The Wilderness is created by Jon Favreau, Obama's former speechwriter. This podcast provides a wonderful deep dive into the history of the American Democratic Party. This gives you as a listener a better picture of the party that has developed from the racist pro-segregation party from the south of America that it was to the liberal party of today. Interesting experts speak in every episode, from senior party executives to historians. Together with two other former Obama staffers, Favreau produces the equally good podcast Pod Save America. Both podcasts are recommended, but Pod Save America is probably better known, while The Wilderness deserves some more attention.

2. Issuemaker Lotte Mertens' tip: Final bosses

During these podcasts, Michel Vos and Wiggert Meerman speak with Eindbaas: special people who have made an exceptional performance or contribution in the field of sports, science, entrepreneurship, culture, society or technology. The topics that come up are surprising. For example; what do entrepreneurship and an Indian tribe in Brazil have to do with each other? How do you view non-duality or mindfulness with an MMA mindset? Lotte's personal recommendations include the Final Bosses podcasts about psychology, evolution and spirituality.

3. Issuemaker Desiree Kemme's tip: From Two Sides

Corine Koole makes a podcast for De Volkskrant in which she interviews two partners separately about intense events in their relationship. Van Twee Kanten thus gives the listener a great opportunity to gain insights from other relationships. Unfortunately there is a summer break, but fortunately there is enough material to listen to again!

4. Issuemaker Lars Ykema's tip: Pantelic Podcast

Ajax fan through and through Arco Gnocchi (BNNVARA) and AD journalist Freek Jansen discuss the latest matches, rumors and what is to come for Amsterdam football pride Ajax in their Pantelic Podcast. Listen to the podcast and hear how Ajax is experienced from a fan and a journalist. Highlight from the Pantelic Podcast archives to listen back to? The analysis on a bench in Spain, after the Champions League victory over Real Madrid. Complete with hoarse voices and one too many drinks: a podcast has rarely been more euphoric.

5. Issuemaker Pieter Idenburg's tip: Reliable Sources
In the weekly podcast Reliable Sources, Jaap Jansen, one of the Netherlands' best-known political journalists, takes you behind the scenes of politics in The Hague. The podcast offers longer political interviews, portraits and reflections, often with historical background. The latter is often provided by historian Pieter Gerrit Kroeger, who uses anecdotes to link political history to current events. Nice bonus; Reliable Sources is just long enough for Pieter to travel by car from his home in the Hague region to the Issuemakers office in Amstelveen.

6. Bas Lans' tip: The Crispy Reading Folder
The Krokante Leesmap is now a household name in the Dutch podcast scene. De Krokante Leesmap won prizes during the Dutch Podcast Awards. The podcast by writer Marcel van Roosmalen and radio makers Roelof de Vries and Noortje Veldhuizen was the winner in the Media & Opinion category. Every week, the presenters each choose their own magazine from which they discuss the crispiest article. The Crispy Reading Map usually leads to hilarious discussions with a high level of nonsense.

7. Issuemaker Marit Holman's tip: Laura H. – the podcast

Audio collective SCHIK have been deployed to transform the bestseller book Laura H. into podcast form. Laura H. tells the story of a young woman from Zoetermeer who ends up in the IS caliphate and ultimately ends up again. An incredibly good podcast that explains Laura's story very beautifully.

8. Issuemaker Bart van Zelst's tip: The Rudi & Freddie Show

Historian Rutger Bregman and Jesse Frederiks from the Correspondent perform in their Rudi & Freddie Show. Expect the same themes and substantive depth that you expect from the news platform De Correspondent, only peppered with personal anecdotes and humor. The gentlemen have a healthy dose of self-mockery and are aware of the left-wing progressive bubble they find themselves in. The broadcast with Dutch EU politician Bas Eickhout is recommended. The MEP for GroenLinks explains how he got the F-gas regulation passed in Europe. In passing, he provides interesting insights into the European decision-making process.

9. The tip from Issuemaker Simone van Schuilwerve: The National Think Tank Podcast

Every year, twenty young academics from different study backgrounds tackle a social problem in The National Think Tank. This year the group will address the question of how does the Netherlands remain healthy and resilient in a digital society? This year, for the first time, a podcast will be made around the theme. The podcast was created and created by three DenkTankers Aida, Bastiaan and Susanne.
