Issue maker Maarten Spaans new board member of the Ideële Reclame Foundation (SIRE)
As of today, our colleague Maarten Spaans (36) is a board member of the Ideële Reclame Foundation (SIRE). Maarten will use his experience in the field of communication and PR to contribute to the organization that has been conducting social campaigns since 1967. The independent foundation wants to 'wake people up, encourage people to think, discuss difficult issues, stimulate debate and get people moving' through public campaigns. In addition to his additional position at SIRE, Maarten continues to work as a senior communications advisor at De Issuemakers.
“Campaigning for social issues is in my blood. I am proud to become part of an institute like SIRE,” Maarten responds enthusiastically. “The impact we can have with SIRE is enormous. Say to someone 'You're a bovine if you stunt with fireworks' and he or she immediately sees the images from the SIRE campaigns. There are still plenty of themes that deserve a SIRE campaign, we will discuss this as a board. I am especially looking forward to helping to give the campaigns - in addition to their appealing form - sufficient depth to provide fodder for public debate.”
SIRE and De Issuemakers
By joining the SIRE board, Maarten follows in the footsteps of our managing partner Mayke van Keep, who preceded him as a board member between 2007 and 2011. De Issuemakers has also been involved in various SIRE campaigns in recent years, such as the 'Children in the cold' in 2007', 'Hands off our care providers' in 2011 and the 'Will you let your boy be enough boy' campaign in 2017. Maarten: “When I just started at De Issuemakers in 2011, I was allowed to support the Aid Providers campaign with PR during my honeymoon. It gave a huge kick to see what we managed to achieve over weeks, which made emergency workers feel supported throughout the Netherlands. The SIRE feeling, which is already widely experienced at De Issuemakers, has always lingered after this.”
SIRE board
SIRE is an independent foundation, founded in 1967 by the joint communications industry. The SIRE board consists of a group of leading, independent thinkers from the communications industry who use their professional knowledge, experience and network. They work for agencies (advertising, PR, digital, social, research), advertisers, operators or production companies. Board members are not the creators of the campaign, but are responsible for the choice of the SIRE themes and are part of the project group that realizes the campaigns. Board members work selflessly for four years on the development and implementation of campaigns on social issues that, according to SIRE, deserve more attention.
In addition to Maarten Spaans, Tanja Bom (ABN Amro), Ard Bossema (Grolsch), Jacques Vereecken (MediaMonks), Christine Swart (Firma Twist), Sylvia Coumans (PostNL), Marcel Hartog (Joe Public Take-Away Advertising), Samantha Catsburg (Stroom), Diana Matroos and Olaf Hovers (RTL) joined the SIRE board today.
With thanks for services rendered, board members Dennis van Vugt (Born05), Jeroen van Seeters (Confidant Partners), Vincent Siegelaar (Hearst), Bas Welling (Wefilm), Sander Volten (180 Kingsday), Marlene Wickel (Jean Mineur) are said goodbye today. Mediavision) and Sven Sauvé (RTL).
